Cory Doctorow's Little Brother updates Orwell's 1984 with current computer technology and post-911 fear-based politics to create a nail-biting read that shows the true dangers of unquestioningly giving up our freedoms in exchange for a vague sense of security. This novel will likely be challenged, banned and generally thrashed by "patriots" who prefer their kids merely parrot their elders views, however, curious, free-thinking teens and their parents will love this book, both for the adventure within and the debate it will doubtlessly engender. Booksellers' biggest issue should be where to shelve it, because it will appeal to adults just as much as kids. Get ready for what should be the most-talked-about book of 2008.
